OUA M-BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: NO. 1 RAVENS, NO. 2 GEE-GEES WIN 11TH STRAIGHT
The Ravens opened the game to establish and early lead which they were able to preserve throughout the game. After the first two quarters of play, Carleton led York by a substantial 13 points, entering the halftime break with a 45-32 advantage.
In the second half the Ravens would extend their lead in the second half, outscoring their opponents 44-40. Strong offensive performances by Stuart Turnbull (Kingston, Ont.) and Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, Ont.) helped to secure the 89-72 victory for Carleton.
Turnbull netted 27 points on the evening as the game's high-scorer. Doornekamp added an impressive 23-point tally to the Ravens' performance while teammate Kevin McCleery (Ottawa, Ont.) contributed eight points on the night. Doornekamp recorded a team-high 12 rebounds in Carleton's victory.
The Ravens earned a 52-point victory over Laurentian Voyageurs, 110-58, in Sudbury, Ont. on Friday.
Carleton was led by McCleery with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. Other Ravens scoring in double figures were Mike Kenny, (Ottawa, Ont.) with 16 points; Elliot Thompson (Fredericton, N.B.) with 15 points; and Doornekamp with 14 points. Doornekamp led all Ravens with 10 total rebounds as Carleton out-rebounded Laurentian 48-21 for the game. Eleven different Ravens scored at least one point in the road victory in Sudbury.

OTTAWA 83, LAURENTIAN 64
SUDBURY, Ont. - First-year forward Warren Ward (Brampton, Ont.) poured in a game-high 22 points Saturday in the Ottawa Gee-Gees' 83-64 road win at Laurentian.
No. 2 uOttawa won an 11th straight game and 20th game overall after out-scoring the Voyageurs 50-32 in the second-half – including 22-14 in the final quarter - after ending the first half ahead by just one, 33-32.
"It was a tough road challenge for us in a hostile environment," said Gees-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro..
Gee-Gees fifth-year post player Dax Dessureault (Embrun, Ont.) contributed 18 points and seven rebounds.
Fourth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe (Toronto, Ont.) scored 20 points on Friday in helping the Gee-Gees to an 86-57 road win at York.

NO. 7 WESTERN 81, MCMASTER 55
LONDON, Ont. - With a lead as big as 31 points, the Western Mustangs trounced the McMaster Marauders in a game which was supposed to be a lot closer in a battle for first place in the OUA West.
Western improved to 10-2 and remains in first place in the OUA West with a two-win cushion on McMaster.
The Mustangs rode smart shooting and sound defence to the win, utilizing open looks from three-point range to score 11 shots for 33 points from beyond the arc.
Alex Brzozowicz (Chicago, Ill.) led Western with 18 points, while Keenan Jeppesen (Stoney Creek, Ont.) continued his strong play with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Mark Gacic (Hamilton, Ont.), who was cut in the first quarter led McMaster with 12 points. Mouctar Diaby was held in check scoring seven points and adding eight boards.
The Mustangs travel to play the Windsor Lancers on Jan. 21 at the St. Denis Centre at 8 p.m, their first of a three-game road swing.

NO. 8 WINDSOR 75, LAURIER 62
WATERLOO, Ont. – Greg Surmacz (Peterbourough, Ont.) scored 27 points for the Windsor Lancers as they went on to defeat the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 75-62 at the Athletics Complex.
Surmacz was the game story has he scored early and often in the Lancers' seventh victory of the season. The 6-foot-8 forward led the charge in the first quarter, giving the visiting team an early 10-point advantage. Windsor's lead was overcome in the second when Kale Harrison (Stratford, Ont.) scored seven straight points to cut the lead down to two. The Golden Hawks rallied and were up by three at halftime.
The Lancers Surmacz came out in the second half and took the lead back from the home team, scoring three straight buckets to give the visitors a five-point advantage. Windsor kept making baskets down the stretch, shooting 55.9 percent in the game.
Laurier was led in scoring by Justin Golob (St. Catharines, Ont.) who had a season-high 17 points and went 5-of-9 from three point land. Jesse MacDonald (Brantford, Ont.) netted 15 while Harrison and Matthew Buckley (Waterloo, Ont.) each notched ten. Buckley put in a solid performance in the paint, picking up a team-high seven boards.
For the Lancers, Surmancz provided the offence, putting down 27 points in 30 minutes on the court. Nigel Johnson-Tyghter (Brampton, Ont.) was the only other Lancer to get into double-digits with 12 points.
