OUA M-BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: CAREER GAME FOR LAURIER'S HARRISON
The Voyageurs have yet to defeat the Golden Hawks since head coach Peter Campbell came to Laurier from Laurentian.
The Golden Hawks started the game with the two-point loss to the York Lions from the previous evening on their minds. Harrison (Stratford, Ont.) came out firing on all cylinders as he racked up 12 points in the first quarter to give the visitors a 25-21. Matas Tirilis (Mississauga, Ont.) also matched Harrison's points with 12 for the Voyageurs.
Laurier went on a tear in the second quarter scoring 30 points to the home teams 17. Harrison had 26 points at half time, assisted by going 12 for 13 from the free throw line. The Hawk defence also limited Tirilis to one point in the second frame.
The halftime break would change nothing as the purple and gold would continue to dominate the home team. The Golden Hawks put up 28 points and hold Laurentian to just 13 points. Both Travis Berry (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Jesse MacDonald (Brantford, Ont.) would break into double digits for points in this quarter with 12 and 11 respectively. The visitors took 32-point lead into the final frame.
The Golden Hawks scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to break the 100-point barrier for the second time this season. Laurentian would out score the visitors for the first time in the game, notching 27 points.
Laurier's Harrison led all players in scoring with 31 points, making him the highest-scoring player in the OUA after four games. MacDonald had 14 points while Berry had 12 and Justin Golob had 11. Harrison also led the team in rebounding with eight followed by Nick St. John (Cornwall, Ont.) with seven.
For the Voyageurs, Matas Tirilis led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds.
The Golden Hawks shot 54.1 percent from the floor compared to Laurentian's 34.3 percent.

NO. 2 CARLETON 79, MCMASTER 48
OTTAWA, Ont. - The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team earned their third win in the 2008 OUA East regular season defeating the McMaster Marauders 79-48 at the Ravens' Nest.
The Ravens opened an early double-digit lead and they would maintain it throughout the game. Stuart Turnbull (Kingston, Ont.) took the hoop immediately scoring seven-points by the end of the first half. Turnbull went on a shooting spree scoring two baskets and a three-pointer within a two minute period. With 35 seconds left before heading to the intermission, Carleton's Luke Chapman (Bloomfield, Ont.) sunk a three-pointer stretching the Ravens' lead to 21 points with the scoreboard reading 40-19.
At the start of the third quarter, the Marauders came out strong looking to get back into the game. Their efforts were quickly shut down within the first few minutes, of the half, with a basket by Kevin McCleery (Ottawa, Ont.). Rob Saunders (Kingston, Ont.) ended the quarter with an impressive three-pointer at the buzzer to spread the Ravens' lead to
28 points.
Jermaine De Costa (Hamilton, Ont.) scored six points in the fourth quarter to help McMaster out-score Carleton in the final stanza 19-16. Carleton's Saunders netted two more three-pointers giving him four for the game.
Ravens' veteran Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, Ont.) led Carleton with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Stuart Turnbull got 13 points and seven rebounds and Rob Saunders landed 12 points and 9 rebounds. The Marauders' top scorer was Marko Gacic (Hamilton, Ont.) with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

NO. 8 OTTAWA 80, LAKEHEAD 67
OTTAWA, Ont. - Fourth-year guard Josh Gibson-Bascombe scored 22 points and added a team-high 11 rebounds Saturday in the No. 8 Ottawa Gee-Gees 80-67 home win over Lakehead to keep the Thunderwolves winless (0-4) under first-year head coach Evan Woodland.
"We want to make sure we're there at the end of March playing for that national championship," said Gibson-Bascombe, after leading the Gee-Gees with 40 minutes of playing time.
"That's why he plays 40 minutes per game," said Gee-Gees head coach Dave DeAveiro. "He is one of Canada's best players."
Fifth-year post player Dax Dessureault added 21 points, four steals and pair of rebounds as the Gee-Gees won a third straight game to improve to 3-1 in the OUA East.
Dessureault had 14 points and four rebounds in the first half as the Gee-Gees raced to a 24-10 advantage after one quarter before being out-scored by six (25-19) in the second for a 43-35 advantage at the half.
"His basketball IQ has increased every year," said DeAveiro.
Gee-Gees third-year forward Nemanja Baletic left the game in the first quarter after taking a finger to the left eye and going to the hospital for observation.

BROCK 74, QUEEN'S 65
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock Badgers men's basketball team improved to a perfect 4-0 in the regular season as they defeated the Queen's Gaels by the score of 74-65 in front of 584 in attendance Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers trailed by four (53-49) early in the fourth quarter, before going on a 20-4 run over a six minute span to take their largest lead of the game 69-57 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Leading the Brock offence was freshmen duo of Joel Whitty (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Didi Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) who both recorded 18 points each. Whitty also handed out five assists while knocking down a season high five three-pointers.
Also in double figures was senior Owen White (Port Hope, Ont.) who contributed with 13 points.
Queen's Mitch Leger led all players with a game high 25 points including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Brock's defence was able to keep the Gaels leading scorer Baris Ondul to just nine points on the night.
Brock shot 41.7 percent (25 for 60) while knocking down 10 three-pointers (10 for 27) for 37 percent. The Gaels were 26 for 57 from the field for 45.6 percent.
The Badgers continued to out-rebound the opposition, winning the battle on the glass 38-28, which included 15 offensive boards.
