LEGER POSTS 20 POINTS IN 69-59 DEFEAT TO NCAA NORTHEASTERN
The Gaels were the first squad to meet an NCAA opponent this season with the other CIS basketball programs slated to play 60 games over the next 10 days.
Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., was the game's top scorer, posting 20 points and five rebounds while Nick DiDonato of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ont. posted nine points and four rebounds. DiDonato played in 24 minutes while Leger recorded 37 minutes.
The Gaels battled their counter-part from the south all-night, but struggled in the third quarter surrendering 23 points and only managing 17, which turned out to be the difference at the end of the game. Queen's did manage a four-quarter surge led by Leger, but ultimately fell short.
Top scorer for the Huskies was Matt Janning of Watertown, Minn., who was two for four from the line and dropped 19 points with 10 rebounds. Canadian Ben Felix from Mill Bay, B.C. who is in his freshman year with the Huskies played nine minutes tallying four points.
This was the first of four games against NCAA opponents with Queen's taking on the Anderson Ravens on Thursday, August 28 at Bartlett Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm
Queen's travels to Ottawa to take on South Alabama, Saturday at 10:00am and return home to battle the University at Buffalo, Sunday, August 31st at 6:00pm. Tickets for both home games are available by calling 613.533.2500 or at the door.
NOTES: Northeastern will travel to Ottawa and take on the Ottawa Gee Gees on Wednesday night and then meet the Carleton Ravens on Thursday… The late Reggie Lewis from the NBA's Boston Celtic's is one of Northeastern basketball's most notable alumni.
