GOLF ROUNDUP: Brock takes men's title, Toronto takes women's at Toronto Invitational
Brock men's golf wins Toronto Invitational, Gibson captures individual title
TORONTO, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's golf team took part in the University of Toronto Invitational held at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club. The Brock men finished first overall while the women placed fifth.
Team captain Jack Gibson (Fort Erie, Ont.) led the Brock Badgers men's team to their first gold medal of the 2012 season. He also captured his first individual title after shoot a 27-hole round of 108 (72+36). Taylor Tyminski and Brett Mitchell tied for fourth overall with identical scores of 112 (76+36). Rounding out the Badgers top five were Dan Hyatt 117 (76+41) and Kari Rikkonen 124 (80+44).
The top three team finishes for the men were Brock 300+149 (449), Western 301+156 (457) and Waterloo 308+155 (463) and McMaster 310+153 (463) who tied for third.
The Brock women finished fifth with a two day total of 552 (272+280). Leading the Brock women was Kristine Littlefield (Mississauga, Ont.) who shot a two-day total of 171 with rounds of 85 and 86. 4 Amy Mikula (London, Ont.) had the Badgers second best finish with a score of 180 (89+91). Rounding out the Badgers top four were Emily Zwier (Welland, Ont.) 202 (98+104) and Kristi Demeester (St. George, Ont.) 212 (109+103).
The top three team finishes for the women were Toronto 246+241 (487), Waterloo 252+250 (502) and Western 254+270 (524).
The Badgers will be competing at the 2012 OUA Championships October 14-16 being hosted by the University of Waterloo at the Grey Silo G.C.

Lady Blues win Toronto Invitational
The Varsity Blues women's golf team won their second straight OUA golf event at the Toronto Invitational at Royal Ashburn Golf Club on Saturday, October 6.
The host Blues took the first-round lead on Friday with a team score of 246, led by Rylie Wilson (Mississauga, Ont.) and Laura Upenieks (Etobicoke, Ont.) who both carded 79s over the challenging course.
Despite cool and very windy conditions throughout the final round, Toronto tallied a team score of 241 for a two-day total of 487 to claim the victory. The University of Waterloo placed second with a total of 502, and Western University finished third at 524.
"The team battled well in windy conditions, and turned in some consistent scores this weekend," said Blues assistant coach Evelyn Paik. "Rylie found her putting touch at the start of the event, and she was able to post two good scores for the team."
Three Blues finished in the top five in the two-day tournament, with Upenieks and Wilson claiming co-medalist honours with identical 159 totals.
Sarah Dunning (Kitchener, Ont.) finished in a fifth-place tie at 169 after a second round 81, and Rebecca Priest (Etobicoke, Ont.) was seventh at 170. Devon Rizzo and Jane Tang of the University of Waterloo finished in third and fourth place, respectively.
