The Gee-Gees men's hockey team travelled to Montreal for two matchups with U SPORTS Top 10 opponents. Against #7 McGill on Friday, the Gee-Gees fell 5-2, before losing narrowly to #2 Concordia 4-3 the following night.
Against McGill, it was a quick start for Ottawa as Alexis Bonefon scored just over 10 minutes into the game. After McGill tied things up six minutes later, Brad Chenier gave the Gee-Gees the lead before the end of the first.
Tides would turn in favour of the Redbirds for the remainder of the game, as McGill scored four unanswered goals to secure the 5-2 win.
The next evening, Ottawa faced the red-hot Concordia Stingers who entered the matchup on an eight-game win streak. In a back-and-forth affair, the Gee-Gees had a chance upset the Stingers.
Concordia opened the scoring in the first period, before adding to their lead early in the second period. Peter Stratis got the Gee-Gees on the board scoring on the power play four minutes into the second period.
In the third period, Ottawa made a strong push with goals from Alexis Bonefon and Mathieu Desgagnés, but a short-handed goal for Concordia sealed the victory at 4-3.
