The Gee-Gees men's hockey team kicked off their weekend on home ice with a horse race against the Western Mustangs. The Friday night match ended in favour of the Mustangs, and the Gee-Gees squad went on to pick up a win against the York Lions.
Ottawa started the game trailing after the opening period. Partway through the second, Gee-Gees captain, Anthony Poulin put the home team on the board. Western regained their lead, but an incredible effort on the rebound by Mathieu Desgagnes evened the score at 2-2.
A scoreless third period sent the teams to overtime action.
Nearing the end of the overtime frame, a big shot by the Mustangs bounced off the crossbar. Western was able to capitalize on their rebound and call game at 3-2.
The Gee-Gees were quick to bounce back from the overtime loss. Hosting the Lions for a Sunday afternoon contest, the Gee-Gees picked up a 3-1 win.
Ottawa capitalized on a pair of powerplay opportunities in the second period. Desgagnes and Marc-Antoine Seguin each scored with the numbers advantage.
Mitch Martin added a goal partway through the third period to call game.
The Gee-Gees are on the road to close out the OUA regular season, visiting Brock and Guelph on Friday and Saturday.
