EXCALIBUR FEATURE STRONG CROP OF FRESHMEN
The Gryphon Open in Guelph last Saturday, September 17 offered a glimpse of the future for Trent University's cross-country team. Leading the way on the men’s side was freshman Zekarias Habtemichael with a second-place finish in a field of 87 runners. Zekarias finished the 7.4-km course with a time of 24:17. Second-year athlete Mike Minor finished in 16th place (26:33), while freshman Clarke Richardson finished in 41st place (30:27).
Leading the way for Trent on the women’s side was freshman Jutta Merlainnen in 7th place with a time of 15:28, over the 4-km course. Second-year athlete Chantal Gagne finished in 32nd place (17:27), followed closely by freshman Stephanie Mitchell in 33rd (17:28). The women’s race had a field of 61 runners.
