WATERLOO, Ont. (October 10, 2015) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's rugby team concluded their 2015 season with a big win over their University Ave., neighbours on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks were relentless against the Waterloo Warriors and collected a 52-17 victory to finish with a 3-2-0 season for their best regular season record since 2005.
The first half started with a full offensive attack from the purple and gold. The women were able to rack up 28 points before the Warriors finally got on the board with seven minutes left to go in the half.
Going into the second half up 33-5, the Hawks were first to get on the board again, but the Warriors responded with a few smart plays of their own. It would not be enough to swing the momentum of the game however, and the Hawks added a few more points within the final two minutes to take the 52-17 victory.
Five Hawks scored at least a try each, including Natalie Snyder (Waterloo, Ont.) who led the way with 15 points off of three tries. Jennifer Gilmour (Waterloo, Ont.) was unstoppable as she tallied six conversions for 12 points. The victory over the Warriors was their first since 2009. The Warriors finished with an 0-4-1 season.
