Guelph 4 Western 3
LONDON – It got dicey for a while but the Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team remained poised to keep its win streak intact. Kelly Gribbons scored her second goal of the night 30 seconds into overtime to give the Gryphons a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Western Mustangs', ending the host's comeback bid at Thompson Arena.
Gribbons, a fifth-year Engineering Systems student from Port Elgin, ON, scored on a point shot moments into the extra session to run Guelph's win streak to five games. Gribbons, who also opened the scoring, now has six goals, tying her for the team lead with captain Kaitlin Lowy.
The Gryphons went 12 consecutive periods without conceding a goal before Western scored three late in the third period to make it a game.
Guelph was firmly in control up 3-0 late but Western mounted an incredible comeback. It started with under six minutes left in the third period, when Mustangs' scoring leader April Clark finished a tic-tac-toe that Aurore Beaulieu had no chance on. Western then pulled the goalie with over two minutes remaining in regulation and Clarke would tally again. With 19 seconds left on the clock, Alyssa Chiarello scored an unlikely equalizer to send the game to overtime.
"We're happy to come away with a win," said head coach Rachel Flanagan. "It's a tough league this year so we have to learn to play a full 60 minutes and respond to pressure with pressure of our own."
Katherine Bailey and rookie Katie Mikkelsen also scored for Guelph (5-3-1-0), while Claire Merrickchipped in two assists. Beaulieu got the call in net, her second start in the last three games, and was under siege en route to stopping 32 of 35 shots. One of her best saves of the night came in the second period when she quickly got a pad down at the post to prevent a Western wraparound that seemed like a certain goal.
Guelph carried the momentum from its impressive recent run into the first period with the Mustangs and went right at the hosts. The Gryphons were strong on special teams, denying Western on a power-play opportunity and firing a lot at goaltender Carmen Lasis when they went on the man advantage.
The visitors broke through at 6:11 of the opening period when Lasis made a great initial pad save on a Guelph three-on-one but the puck went to Gribbons, who buried it for her fifth goal of the season.
Bailey made it 2-0 with a bullet point shot late in the first period. The Gryphons were unlucky not to be up more at the first intermission but Lasis was spectacular in between the pipes, though she was pulled for Tareya Webster to start the second.
Mikkelsen, a defenceman who transferred after one season with the Ohio State Buckeyes, scored her first OUA goal on a pretty move and shot from the point early in the second period for a 3-0 lead.

Toronto 1 Nipissing 4
In a key, early season game, the Nipissing Lakers came up with a big victory.

Maria Dominico opened up the scoring before the Blues replied to even things up.

Windsor 2 York 3
Rookie forward Courtney Gardiner scored the game-winning goal with five seconds remaining on the clock to give the York University Lions women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over the Windsor Lancers at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday afternoon.
Gardiner's tally, her second of the season, gave the Lions their third victory of the season as their record improved to 3-0-6-1. Windsor is still looking for its first regulation win of the year and sits at 0-1-7-1.
Both teams battled hard right from the start, but neither were able to get the puck in the net. This was finally broken by Brooke Andersonwhen she scored the first goal of the game at 7:47, giving the Lions an early lead. She was assisted by Sarah Power and Kelsey McHolm.
The Lancers added a goal of their own five minutes later on a power play, bringing the score to 1-1, where it would remain for the rest of the period. Emily Bowman scored this goal, and Larissa Borowiec and Reagan Kaufman assisted her.
In the second period, the Lions added another goal and took back the lead, this time on the power play. This goal was scored by Taylor Davison, and assisted by Chelsea Tucker and Erin Locke.
The Lancers were looking to keep things tied up, however, and Kennedy Snively added their second goal at 17:09, assisted by Borowiec and Lexi Contratto.
Towards the end of the third period, it looked like the game would be heading into overtime as neither team had taken the lead. With five seconds left on the clock, Gardiner was assisted by McHolm and Cynthia St-Cyr in scoring the winner.

Western 3 Laurier 1
WATERLOO, Ont. – A pair of goals from April Clark, the OUA's leading scorer, carried the Western Mustangs over the Laurier Golden-Hawks for a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The win allows the Mustangs to bounce back from their two-game losing streak, placing them at 5-1-2-2 and putting them back in second place in the rankings. The Golden Hawks sit at 1-0-5-1.
Clark's two goals preserved her ranking as the leading scorer in the league, pushing her three goals ahead of the next highest scoring athlete. Evra Levesque netted the Mustangs' other goal of the game, while Laurier's lone goal was scored by forward Aynsley Hall.
Western applied solid offensive pressure from the first whistle to allow Clark to get on the board only five minutes into the first frame, with help from teammates Amanda Pereira and Beatrice Dufour.
Less than five minutes later, Levesque scored the Mustangs insurance marker off a pass from Megan Taylor and Shailyn Waites.
The Golden-Hawks switched from goaltender Cohen Myers to Hannah Miller after the second goal in an attempt to slow the stream of purple and white points. Miller is one of the best ranked goaltenders in the league, holding the highest save percentage (.967) and the lowest goals-against average (.97).
Laurier's Aynsley Hall scored their only goal of the game early in the second frame off of a wild bounce. With five minutes left in the period, Clark netted her second of the night and the first goal on Miller, to extend Western's lead to 3-1.
Clark's goal would be the last of the game, as Tareya Webster and Miller both stood tall throughout the final frame to prevent any more goals and preserve Western's 3-1 lead.

Marie-Pierre Pelissou scored the first goal of the game at 9:18 as she beat Valencia Yordanov to give the Vees a 1-0 lead. Amelie Samson and Elissa Bertuzzi assisted on the play. The Vees goal was the only goal of the period despite Laurentian outshooting U of T 16-9.
The second period so little action until late in the period, despite the Vees outshooting U of T 16-9 again. Myla McCormick doubled the Voyageurs lead at 18:02 on a play assisted by Bertuzzi and Samson.
The Blues responded in the dying seconds of the period by way of Stephanie Ayres who cut Laurentian's lead in half with 50 seconds left.

Ryerson 2 Nipissing 3
While there was no panic or worry in the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team's dressing room, they did want to get on a roll before the Christmas break.
And after two key wins this weekend, Friday over Toronto and a 3-2 win Saturday over Ryerson, they're looking good.
Winners of three of their last four, the Lakers picked up the full six points and have climbed into the top five in the league after a slower start than they would have liked.
Robyn Degagne got the scoring started with a power play marker in the first period which gave Nipissing the lead after 20 minutes.
Kaley Tienhaara and Zosia Davis drew the helpers on Degagne's third of the year.
Nipissing went up 2-0 on Brianna Gaffney's first career OUA goal less than a minute into the second and the Lakers looked to be in control.
The Rams had different plans, however, as they scored twice before the end of the frame, including a goal with 12 seconds left, to send the teams to the dressing rooms tied 2-2.
The lone goal of the third period and game-winner, came off the stick of the league's hottest player, as Maria Dominico scored her sixth goal of the season to give Nipissing the victory.
Tienhaara and Madison Solie earned assists on the winner.
Jackie Rochefort made 13 saves in net for the Lakers, earning the win.
Nipissing will hit the road next weekend and play a single game at York on Saturday afternoon.

UOIT 0 Queen’s 2
KINGSTON, Ont. (November 18, 2017) – The No.10 Queen's Gaels (8-2-0-1) picked up a 2-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-2-5-1) on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre. Hailey Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) scored the game winning goal in the second period with her third of the season, while Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) added a late empty netter to seal the win for the Gaels. The Gaels controlled the play for most of the game and that was reflected with a 37-18 shot count in favour of them.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels would get plenty of chances to open the scoring in the first period as they were given three power plays. Despite good puck movement, the Gaels were unable to get quality scoring chances and shots on net with the Ridgebacks down a player. The period would end with no scoring on either side and the teams would head into intermission tied 0-0.
Wilson opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the second period for the Gaels as she notched her third of the season from Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) and Micaela Smith (Cobourg, Ont.). Pascal was very solid in the period making nine saves and keeping the Ridgebacks off of the score sheet. The Gaels would take a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
In the third period, the Gaels played a strong defensive game to hold their lead over the Ridgebacks. UOIT would pull their goalie before an offensive zone faceoff with 50 seconds left but their attempt at a rally was short lived as Halladay finished things off with her sixth of the season into the open cage just ten seconds later.
Pascal answered the bell when she needed to and picked up her third shutout of the season in the Gaels win while Celine Tessier took the loss in net for the Ridgebacks.

Ryerson 2 Laurentian 1
In what was shaping up to be another regulation loss for the Ryerson Rams, a bad deflection would turn the game around and a beautiful shootout move would seal the deal, as the Rams pushed past the Laurentian Voyageurs by a final score of 2-1.
Laurentian’s Nicole Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ont.) would open up the scoring for the Voyageurs, coming off the blue line to fire a quick one-timer that would beat goaltender Rachel Seely (Ottawa, Ont.) on the blocker side. The rest of the first period would remain scoreless, and the Rams headed into the dressing room down by a goal.
In a scoreless second period, Ryerson would outshoot Laurentian 14-5. The Rams’ shot count in the second period totalled just one less than the team had all game Saturday against Nipissing (15 shots through three periods).
The remainder of the game would remain scoreless until Ryerson’s Sarah McGilvray (Stouffville, Ont.) would tie it up midway through the third period. McGilvray looked to attempt a cross-crease pass to linemate Kryshanda Green (Brampton, Ont.), but the puck would be deflected into the net by a Laurentian defender.
Regulation play ended on a 1-1 tie, and five minutes of overtime would solve nothing.
In typical Ryerson women’s hockey fashion, the first round of the shootout would remain scoreless. To the rescue, yet again, was Ryerson’s team-leading scorer Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.), who would score an absolutely beautiful goal to secure victory for her team. The Rams claimed the victory in this matchup, pushing past Laurentian by a final score of 2-1 in the shootout.

Brock opened the scoring seven minutes into the opening period as Kimberly Brown setup Kat Whiteye for her first career regular season goal.
Windsor would tie the game 1-1 with six minutes left in regulation as Kennedy Snively found Danielle Butler who beat rock goaltender Jensen Murphy to sent it to overtime.
With no scoring in the overtime, this one would be decided by shootout. After three shooters, it was tied 1-1 with Brock Maggie Spratt-Mallick and Windsor's Jasmine Morning scoring. Fifth shooters Christina Ieradi and Reagan Kaufman would make it 2-2, before the Badgers Kat Whiteye, the eighth shooter, buried the game winner.
