Varsity Blues complete sweep at Chicago College Showcase
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team completed a four game sweep at the Chicago College Showcase this past weekend (Nov. 4-5) picking up another two victories to round out the four-game schedule.
Against Windy City, the Blues quickly took command breaking on top 8-2 at the half. They extended the lead to 11-3 after three quarters before coasting to a 14-9 win.
Two hours later Toronto faced its toughest opponent of the tournament in the Club of Chicago, a team comprised primarily of Division 1 school graduates.
CoC opened the scoring, the only time the Blues trailed during the entire event. However, the deficit lasted less than a minute as Toronto popped in a pair of counterattack goals and led 4-1 after the first quarter.
The superior conditioning of the Blues team along with the outstanding goaltending of co-captain Emirhan Ozdemir (Istanbul, Turkey) proved to be the difference as Toronto kept extending its lead en route to a 17-10 victory.
The bulk of the Blues' firepower in both games came from the trio of co-captain Sukhmun Hare(Vancouver), Euan Scoffield (Ottawa) and Daniel Ugray (Budapest, Hungary).
Next up for the Blues is a weekend trip to New York City to play NCAA Top 20 ranked St. Francis College and powerhouse club New York Athletic Club (NYAC).
