LAVAL, Que. — Acadia edged McGill 2-1 in a shootout in exhibition men's hockey action on Friday, Sept. 20 at Place Bell.
After a scoreless first period, McGill took the lead in the second with a shorthanded goal by Alexandre Gagnon at 11:44. Acadia quickly responded with a power-play goal from Charlie Desroches at 12:00, assisted by Adam McMaster and Cam Whynot.
Neither team could break the deadlock in the third period or overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Acadia's Brendan Sellan and Brady Burns scored in the shootout, while McGill's only shootout goal came from Sellan.
Both teams were assessed 16 penalty minutes, with McGill going 0-for-7 on the power play, while Acadia converted one of their three opportunities.
Acadia goaltender Thomas Couture made 35 saves on 36 shots, helping his team secure the win in front of 312 fans.
