This weekend the Thunderwolves' Cross Country Running team travelled to Kingston to compete in the Queen's open. Just two weeks out from the OUA championships, this was a good competition and allowed the team to see the course that they will be competing on again at OUA's.
Junior Kevin Tree ran a great race in the 10km distance finishing first overall and helping the team finish 3rd. Dominque Aulagnon assisted with a very strong performance finishing in 5th. Mason Quarrell ran a tough race and crossed the line in 16th position.
The men's race was won by the CIS #2 ranked McMaster Mauraders with 38 points. London Runner Club finished second with 88 points and Lakehead just behind with 107 points. Dylan Brown and Connor McGuire did not race for Lakehead but both figure to contribute to the team's success at the OUA Champs in two weeks.
On the women's side Lakehead did not race a full team. Mary Strain moved up during the race and finished in 23rd.
Coach Kip Sigsworth was happy with team's results this weekend. "Great run for Tree, he is running very well right now. Dom also ran with a lot more confidence today and it paid off. Add in Brown and McGuire and we have a strong team. Two weeks left to fine-tune, rest up, and get ready to compete for a podium spot at OUA's."
The team does not race until OUA's now in two weeks but until then, they will be training and preparing for the tough competition.
