MCMASTER DUAL SPORT STUDENT-ATHLETE MOVES TOWARD TRIATHLON DREAMS
McMaster cross-country head coach Rory Sneyd said, "last year a serious medical condition caused Andrew to miss the entire 2008 cross-country season. His tremendous indoor season, highlighted by a seventh-place finish in the 3000m at the OUA championships, and the recent fitness he has shown suggest that he will contend for both OUA all-star and CIS all-Canadian honours in cross-country."
In 2009, Yorke is expected to compete for the McMaster cross-country, track and field and swim teams to train for the sport of triathlon. In May, he placed fourth in the Patco Pan American Triathlon Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. In 2007-08, Yorke was named Canada's junior triathlete of the year, an honour previously bestowed on Olympians Simon Whitfield and Paul Tichelaar.
In addition to Andrew Cole and Rory Sneyd, Yorke is coached in triathlon by McMaster alumni and former Canadian triathlon coach Barrie Shepley.
The McMaster swim team and cross-country team begin training camp in September. The McMaster track and field team will begin practice in the fall.
