Banner Season: Excalibur defeat Queen's to cap off back-to-back title-winning runs
Oshawa, Ont. - The Trent Excalibur have done it again. They won their second straight OUA women's field lacrosse championships on Sunday afternoon at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa.
Trent defeated the Queen's Gaels 10-9, leading the entire match.
Mackenzie Manuliak led Trent's offence with four goals, while OUA all-star Avery Digiorgio scored twice. Jocelyne Lemay rounded out the Excalibur scoring with three goals.
The Queen's Gaels relied on Abby Lee's four goals to keep them in the game. Jaedyn Smail added two goals, with an assist. Rounding out Queen's scoring was OUA all-star and Most Valuable Defender Annie Lloyd, Charlotte Sawicki and OUA all-star and Most Valuable Offensive Player Kiah Shanks.
The Western Mustangs won bronze again in Oshawa, defeating the Guelph Gryphons 9-6 in the bronze medal match. Quinn Kolwich led the Western offence with three goals in the win, while Jade Barko and Megan Latoski each scored twice for Guelph to lead the Gryphon offence.
After the game, Erin Heidecker, Timmia Bomberry, Rachel Reynolds, Sophie Hofmann and Kolwich were named OUA all-stars.
