LAURIER WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT OUA BANNER
WATERLOO - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk women's lacrosse team repeated as OUA Champions for the fourth consecutive time defeating the Queen's Golden Gaels 7-5 in the gold medal game at University Stadium.
The Hawks qualified for the gold winning the semi final over McGill 11-8. Earlier this week three members of the team were recognized by being named OUA all-stars.
Fourth year attack Erica Howard of Kitchener scored four of the seven goals while Steph Garibaldi of Kitchener scored two and Amy Fincham of Waterloo scored the remainder. Kirsten Gerrie picked up the only three assists for the Hawks in the contest.
It took 23-minutes of play before either team could score, Howard opened it up and within a minute later Laura Chambers of Queen's tied it up. Two more goals would be exchanged by the two teams before Amy Fincham scored Laurier's third to make the score 3-2 at the half.
Steph Garibaldi scored her second goal of the year just minutes after the break and then Howard another to put the Hawks up 5-2. Queen's went on a three goal run in three minutes to tie the game up at fives. Howard picked up her sixth while Queen's was down a man due to a penalty situation. Garibaldi scored the final goal just 2:10 before the whistles blew to conclude the game.
