RYERSON'S WHITE GUIDES CANADA TO SILVER AT U-18 WORLDS
Canada fell 3-2 in overtime to the United States in Saturday's gold medal game. The Canadians overcame a 2-0 deficit and forced overtime on a goal by Jessica Wong (Baddeck, N.S.) with just eight minutes remaining in regulation time. The Americans would score on the power play at 6:47 of the extra frame to win gold for the second straight year.
Canada went 3-0 in the preliminary round, outscoring its opponents 35-1, before defeating Sweden 6-1 in the semi-finals.
White was named head coach of Team Canada in July of 2008. The Toronto product also served as an assistant coach with Canada's national women's under-22 team in 2007-08, helping the squad to a 7-0 record - the first perfect season in the history of the under-22 program - and a gold medal at the Air Canada Cup in January in Ravensburg, Germany. She also spent time as an assistant coach with Canada's national women's team in 2006-07, winning a gold medal at the 2007 IIHF World Women's Championship in Winnipeg.
The women's hockey program at Ryerson began competition in September of 2007 as a CIS probationary team in Toronto's Golden Blades Women's Hockey League. The team will continue to play as a probationary team for two more seasons before making the jump to Ontario University Athletics (OUA) in 2010-11. White will guide the program through this transition and be behind the bench when the team joins the OUA.
