LONDON, Ont. - Three years after spending time on the purple and white roster together, current London Western Track and Field Club training partners Caroline Ehrhardt and Alicia Smith will represent Canada at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto – where they'll both compete in triple jump on July 21.
The two former Mustangs will be joined by four teammates from the London Western Track and Field Club with Lanni Marchant set to compete in the 10000m, Tim Hendry-Gallagher in shot put, Daniel Novia in hammer throw, and Damian Warner in decathlon.
Athletes will have one last chance to improve upon their season bests before heading into the Games as they head to Edmonton to compete at the 2015 Canadian Track and Field Championships from July 2-5. The Championships also serve as the selection trial for this year's World Championships, held in Beijing, China.
One of the greatest track and field athletes in Western's lengthy history, Ehrhardt recently graduated from the Faculty of Health Sciences while holding the OUA and CIS records for triple jump. With 18 OUA and CIS medals from her time with Western already in her trophy case along with four consecutive Canadian triple jump championships from 2011-14, the native of Espanola, Ont., leads the Canadian contingent with a season best of 13.08m.
A CIS champion in long jump, Smith continued to train and compete with London Western following her departure from the Mustangs in 2012, and has won a number of medals in that time, including claiming silver in the triple jump from 2012-14 at the Canadian Track and Field Championships. Already holding degrees in both Social Science and Education, the current Master of Coaching student and eight-time OUA and CIS medalist follows Ehrhardt with a season best of 12.99m.
With years of elite competition experience, and a combined number of 26 medals between Ehrhardt and Smith at the university level alone, the duo will aim to help improve upon Canada's previous Pan Am appearance in 2011, when four medals were claimed.
