MCMASTER TURNING OUT STRONG PERFORMANCES ON THE TRACK
Five McMaster student-athletes - Larry Abbott (Sarnia, Ont.), Jimmy Tat (Oakville, Ont.), Noah Fleming (Dundas, Ont.), Jillian Wyman (Dundas, Ont.) and Katie Anderson (Exeter, Ont.) - competed in the Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships in late-June.
Three McMaster student-athletes - Anderson, Sara Giovannetti (Mississauga, Ont.), Jeremy Walsh (Stratford, Ont.) and two recruits; Victoria Coates (Newmarket, Ont.) and Lisa Giles (Ottawa, Ont.) - competed at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championship July 17 to 19 in Charlottetown, P.E.I with all five advancing to the finals in their events.
Giovannetti earned a bronze medal in the 2000m steeplechase. Coates finished seventh in the women's 3000m, defeating the OFSAA second, third and fourth place finishers.
Two Marauders will compete for the Ontario team in the Canada Summer Games, August 15 to 29. Wyman will run in the 1500m and Giovannetti will race in the 2000m steeplechase.
The McMaster cross country and track and field program will begin training camp in September.
