MALE: Adrian Pena, York Lions, Soccer
Pena (Woodbridge, Ont.), was named the CIS tournament MVP on Sunday after scoring a tournament-high four goals in three games to lead the Lions to their second national championship in three years. The third-year striker scored all four Lions goals over the weekend; the lone markers in 1-0 victories over Saint Mary’s in the semifinals and UBC in the gold-medal game, as well as two in regulation and the penalty-kicks winner in a 3-2 win over Laval in the quarter-finals. Pena was also named to the tournament all-star team and, earlier in the week, received CIS First-Team All-Canadian honours for the first time.
FEMALE: Jessica Pearo, McMaster Marauders, Cross Country
Pearo (Richmond Hill, Ont.), finished the 2010 season with a perfect record winning the CIS title in Sherbrooke, Quebec on Saturday. Pearo finished the 5 km course in a time of 17.40 beating Guelph’s Rachel Cliff (Vancouver, B.C.) by a full 10 seconds. Pearo became the first runner in McMaster history to win an individual cross country title. She also made the All-Canadian team for the fourth consecutive season. In 2010 the fourth-year won the Western International, the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, the University of Rochester Invitational, and the 2010 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship, in addition to the CIS Championship.
