MALE: Karl Wasslen, Carleton Ravens, Soccer
Since returning from an injury last season, fifth-year goalkeeper Karl Wasslen has been instrumental in the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team’s success. This weekend, Wasslen backstopped the No. 10 Ravens to a 1-0 victory over the No. 4 Toronto Varsity Blues. He followed that with a strong performance in net on Sunday, leading the Ravens to another 1-0 victory, this time over the Trent Excalibur. The win moved the Ravens up to first place in the OUA East standings. The Chemistry major has not allowed a goal in five games, or 450 minutes, this season.
FEMALE: Devon Rizzo, Waterloo Warriors, Golf
First-year golfer Devon Rizzo of Brantford, Ontario recorded the lowest score in OUA women’s golf history shooting a two-under, 70 at the very challenging St. Thomas Golf Club as part of the Western Invitational. Rizzo’s 70 was five strokes better than any competitor in the field and helped lead her Warriors to the gold medal in team competition shooting 14 strokes better than any other team. On day two of the Western Invitational, Rizzo finished fifth shooting an 83 and once again helping her Warriors win the gold medal in very windy conditions at the Sunningdale Golf Club.
