OUA announces field hockey schedule for the 2022 season
Burlington, Ont. - Eight field hockey teams will try once again to fend off their fellow conference competitors when they take the field for the upcoming 2022 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season, which will get underway on September 16th.

With the return of the McGill Martlets, the divisional breakdown will once again feature four teams apiece with each of the eight competing schools playing in 10 regular season games across the five-week slate.
Runners up a season ago, the Guelph Gryphons will help start the latest OUA season when they travel to London, Ont. to take on the Western Mustangs on September 16th. The semifinal rematch from a season ago may be the first matchup of the campaign's debut weekend, but it will by no means be the last, as seven more games will take the field across the following two days.
The remaining six teams will each debut their 2022 squads on September 17th, when the McMaster Marauders host the Waterloo Warriors, the York Lions welcome McGill, and the defending champion Toronto Varsity Blues begin their quest for a repeat on the road against the Queen's Gaels. Each side will wrap up the weekend against those same opponents, with all but the Lions and Martlets swapping hosting duties for their respective second games.
The Lions were the only team that came away with a result other than a loss against the Blues a season ago, finishing tied with the eventual champions on two occasions in 2021 before bowing out to them in a closely contested divisional final. The two sides will renew their rivalry in Week 3 (September 28th) when York heads to Toronto for their first of two regular season tilts, with the second coming the following week on October 5th.
In addition to seeing their semifinal foes on the 2022 schedule, the Varsity Blues will also set their sights on their fellow finalists from a year ago. Fans will have to wait until the regular season's final weekend for that rematch; however, as the game that will be well worth the wait will see Toronto travel to Guelph on October 14th for their penultimate outing.
Another seven games will take place over the course of the fifth and final week of regular season action, which wraps up on October 16th. The top five teams will then quickly turn their attention to the postseason, as the fourth and fifth-ranked squads battle on October 19th for a spot in the semifinals. Therein, the No. 1 seed will host the Round 1 winner, while the second seed will welcome the third-ranked squad, with both games' victors venturing on to the 2022 OUA Field Hockey Championship on October 29th.
