OUA men's fencing championship: Queen's ahead after individual events

BRONZE – Colin Lee (Western)
Queen’s won gold for individual epee beating out Ottawa in the final. However, with Ottawa taking both silver and bronze, they came out on top with 44 points and Queen’s trailed with 41. Carleton’s Joe Wright finished in fifth.
The Toronto Varsity Blues have dominated the foil category for the past five years. Today, they claimed both gold and silver in foil. Queen’s placed fourth, which was the only event today that they did not medal. Host, Carleton Ravens finished second in points for the men’s foil. Three Ravens finished in the top ten; with Alex Tudor placing fifth, Alexandre Salat placing sixth and Francois Provencher placing eight.
McMaster and Western made an appearance in the sabre event, taking silver and bronze respectively. Once again, Queen’s took gold.
Going into Day 2, Queen’s is in the lead for the banner with 105 points. Toronto and Western are trailing with 85 and 65 respectively. If Queen’s manages to maintain their lead tomorrow, it will be their third overall win in the past three years.
Competition continues tomorrow with the team events, followed by the medal and banner presentations.
