PALADINS GO UNDEFEATED IN EAST QUALIFIER
KINGSTON - The defending OUA champions from RMC dominated the OUA East women's fencing qualifier today at the KMCSC. The Paladins went undefeated, finishing first in each team event and will be sending the most individuals of any of the participating universities to the OUA Championships in two weeks. In all, nine
RMC women qualified for the championships in foil, epee and sabre.
Leading the way today was the Paladins' epee team. Sarah McRae finished first in the individual event and will be joined by teammates Erin McEachern and Shauna McKinnon, who finished third and fourth respectively. In team competition, McRae and McEachern were joined by teammate Jeni Hoover and defeated Queen's 45 - 34 and Trent 43 - 24, while also defeating Carleton 45 - 8, en route to a first-place finish.
In women's foil action, defending OUA champion and national team program member Marilyne Lafortune went undefeated to finish first overall. Lafortune will be joined at the finals by teammates Taryn Johal and Marie-Eve Labonte. The foil team defeated Queen's 45 - 30, Trent 45 - 35 and Carleton 45-37 to take first place overall.
The women's sabre team from RMC defeated Queen's 45 - 28, Trent 45 - 26 and also beat Carleton 45 - 16. Three members of the Paladins sabre team qualified for the individual event at the OUA Championships. Chantel Lemay finished third, while teammates Sarah Rogers and Natalie Jones were fourth and seventh respectively.
