RECAP: #8 Gee-Gees fall to #6 Gryphons in Guelph
The U SPORTS eighth-ranked Gee-Gees dropped a 33-6 contest against the sixth-ranked Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon.
The U SPORTS eighth-ranked Gee-Gees football team dropped a 33-6 contest against the sixth-ranked Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon.
A defensive battle early in the game, the Gee-Gees conceded back-to-back safeties in the first quarter, handing the Gryphons a 4-0 lead. Seven minutes into the first, Guelph found the end zone for the first time, extending their lead to 11-0.
The Gee-Gees' first points of the game came on a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter. Fair would get his second field goal and the team's final points on a 30-yarder with 1:12 left in the first half.
The remainder of the game was dominated by the Gryphons, feeding off of a homecoming crowd of over 5,000. Up 21-6 at halftime, Guelph added another 12 second half points to close out the win.
Running back Jordan Burgher was once again a bright spot for the Gee-Gees, rushing for 86 yards on 13 carries. On defence, Abed Hamidi, Réshaan Davis, and Thomas Carrier led the way with 5 total tackles. Davis added one and a half tackles for loss on the afternoon, with sacks coming from Kyle Rodger and Dylan Mattatall.
Second-year punter Loic Legendre had a busy but successful day, logging 269 yards on six punts, for an average of 44.8 yards. One kick became the new longest in the OUA this year at 67 yards. Legendre leads the nation in punting yards gained with 1,833.
