FEMALE: Amanda Woodcroft (Waterloo, Ont.) – 5th yr. – Toronto Varsity Blues – Field Hockey
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues pulled off one of the biggest comeback victories in program history, as they scored four unanswered goals to claim their second straight OUA field hockey championship.
Fifth-year midfielder and OUA all-star Amanda Woodcroft scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals as the Blues knocked off the top-seeded Guelph Gryphons 4-3 on the Back Campus Fields on Saturday afternoon.
After being held off the scoresheet in their semfinal game against York, the KPE Concurrent Education major bounced back on Saturday in a big way.
After falling behind 3-0 early in the gold-medal match, Toronto narrowed the gap to 3-2 at halftime. Woodcroft would take the game over in the second half, scoring twice in a four minute span as the Blues eventually held on to win their fourth OUA banner in the past five seasons and an OUA-leading 31st since 1971.
Woodcroft and the Blues now head to Victoria, B.C. for the 2015 CIS championship, Nov. 5-8.
