Blues finish Holiday Invitational 2-1 with 70-55 loss to Victoria
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team wrapped up the 2015 U of T Holiday Invitational with a 70-55 loss to the Victoria Vikes on December 30 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team wrapped up the 2015 U of T Holiday Invitational with a 70-55 loss to the Victoria Vikes on December 30 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
The Vikes won the tournament, going 3-0, with wins over Toronto, Laurentian (79-51) and Western (73-69).
The Blues went 2-1 over the three-day affair, opening the tournament with a 76-71 win over Western (Recap) and thrilling come-from-behind 84-78 overtime win over Laurier (Recap).
Third-year guard Rahshida Atkinson led the Blues on Wednesday, totalling a team-high 16 points, while adding five boards and two steals. Alanna Garner notched nine points and led the team with seven rebounds, while Diedre Edwards, Abena Addo and Emily Piccini all racked up seven points in the loss.
Nicole Karstein led all players with a double-double of 23 points and 20 boards for Victoria, while Jenna Bugiardini had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jenna Krug added 13 points in the win.
The Varsity Blues resume regular season action next Friday, January 8 as they host the York Lions in a School Day Game. Tip off is set for 11 a.m.
