Nationally ranked Gaels take season series over Ridgebacks

KINGSTON, Ont. – A slow start to Friday night's game for the Ontario Tech University women's basketball team proved to be too tall of a mountain to climb as they fell 76-47 to the No. 8 ranked Queen's Gaels.

"In the first half of the season, we have learned what it takes to compete at this level for 40 minutes," said head coach Christa Eniojukan. "We have seen significant growth and are looking forward to the break as we regroup to come back strong for January."

The Ridgebacks closed the spread in each of the remaining three quarters, but the opening 16-point lead from the opening 10 minutes ended up being the majority of the gap at the end of the night.

For the Ridgebacks they will now have more than a month off from conference play as they don't return to action until Wednesday, Jan. 8 at home against the Guelph Gryphons. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
  • Dlayssa Fleurgin (Montreal, Que.) had a team-high 15 points for the Ridgebacks, continuing to lead the team in scoring and keep her points per game above ten through ten conference games.
• Emma Ritcey finished with the game-high of 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting to pace the Gaels offence.
  • Fleurgin had her second double-double of the year, pulling in a game-high 13 boards.
Alexanne L'Heureux (Mont-Laurier, Que.) had a team-high three steals, outdone by only Natalie Froese of the Gaels.
• Queen's Sophie de Goede had her team's high of 12 rebounds on the night as the Gaels outrebounded Ontario Tech 61-54.
  Overall Record: 0-13
Conference Record: 0-10

Next Game: Wednesday, Jan. 8 vs. Guelph Gryphons (8 p.m. – CRWC)
