The Waterloo Warriors hosted their annual Don Mills Open race at the lower CIF fields with the men's team coming in second spot while the women placed third.
Warriors post strong results on home soil
The Waterloo Warriors hosted their annual Don Mills Open race at the lower CIF fields with the men's team coming in second spot while the women placed third.
Leading the way for the men's team was Adam Richardson (Ottawa) who ran the 10km race in a time of 32:37 to finish second overall and first overall among OUA runners. Richardson was 10 seconds behind the top racer from Windsor, Nick Falk. Chris Moore finished 7th overall (5th among OUA competition) with a time of 33:33 while Dan Fournier (Timmins) was 13th overall with his time of 34:19.
On the women's side Samantha McGuiness (Mitchell) ran a strong race in the 6km event posting a time of 22:40 to finish 7th among OUA runners. The Laurentian Voyageurs swept the top five spots to finish first overall as a team. The Brock Badgers claimed the silver medal posititon as a team.
Other strong results for the women's team came from Alexandra McGowan (Carp) who came 8th out of OUA runners with a time of 22:47 and Erin Merkley (Smiths Falls) who finished 16th with her time of 23:42.
The Warriors will have a week off before their next meet which takes place in Windsor on Sat, October 17.

Golden Hawks finish fourth at Don Mills Open
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 3, 2015) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's cross country team had their best team result of the season on Saturday as they finished fourth at the Don Mills Open.
Leading the way for Laurier once again were Adam Cornwall of St. Mary's, Ont., and Elliot De Lange of London, Ont. Cornwall finished the Columbia Lake course in third place thanks to a time of 33 minutes and 1 second to earn himself a bronze medal. Meanwhile, De Lange finished right behind his teammate in fifth place as he ran the course in 33:27.
Joe Sheridan of Kitchener, Ont., had his best finish of the year, cracking the Top 25 with a 21st place showing after a time of 34:40.
In the women's race, Laurier finished tied for the eighth in the team standings. Serena Gill of Ajax, Ont., was the Hawks top finisher as she crossed the line in 29th place after a time of 24:04.
Laurier will now have two weeks off prior to their next meet. The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, October 17 at the Windsor Open.
