Women's volleyball completes weekend sweep over No. 9 Mustangs

Brock lost just a single set between Friday and Saturday.

The Brock Badgers women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14) win over the No. 9 nationally-ranked Western Mustangs on Saturday, Jan. 25 in London.

Emily Foest led the Badgers in points, with 12 kills in the contest and a service ace. Sadie Dick had game-high 14 digs while Mackenna Knox recorded 41 assists in the victory.

In the first set, a kill from Emma Baruchelli made it 5-4 for the Badgers and the visitors would not rescind the lead from that point on, taking set one 25-17.

Brock continued to carry the momentum into the second set, leading by as high as 11 points and ultimately taking it 25-16 thanks in part to three kills each from Foest and Charlotte Ross.

Western stormed out to an advantageous lead in the third set and did not look back, taking set three 25-20.

Looking to close out the game with a fourth-set win, Elvira Piriyeva with her second-career Ontario University Athletics' (OUA) kill iced the game for the Badgers.

Brock's hitting percentage of .331 bested Western's .151.

The Badgers also had nine service aces to the Mustangs' six.

Next, the Brock Badgers women's volleyball team will head to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. The contest will be live on OUA.tv. Last time out, the Badgers swept the Thunderwolves 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Dec. 2, 2023.
