No. 5 York Lions Edge Guelph Gryphons, improve to 7-0
Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 final Wednesday to the No. 5 York Lions Wednesday at the Gryphons Soccer Complex. The Gryphons fall to 2-5 on the season while the Lions remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year.
Guelph, Ont. - The York University Lions women's soccer team continues to stampede over the OUA West Division with a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 17) against the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph, Ont.
The win extends the reign of the Lions to seven undefeated games and an overall total of 21 points. The Lions have scored 42 goals this season and average at an amazing six goals per game.
After a scoreless first half, York's Samantha Marini (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored her first ever goal for the Lions in the 53rd minute.
York hammered the Gryphon defence with 16 shots on net, but Guelph's goalkeeper Holly Miller saved eight glorious shots, only letting one ball slip through her gloves. The Gryphons fought hard, having a total of four shots on net against the Lions, but it wasn't enough to earn the win.
Rookie goalkeeper Courtney Davis (Cambridge, Ont.) recorded her sixth win of the season with another cleansheet.
