Town, Chan win medals at annual York Open meet
A pair of York University Lions wrestlers won medals at the annual York Open meet at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday.
Alexandria Town made a triumphant return to her home meet after missing last year with an injury, winning the gold medal in the women's 59kg weight class.
After a pair of big 10-0 wins in the quarter-finals and semis, over Sam Squires from the Guelph Gryphons and Daina Armstrong from the Brock Badgers, respectively, she had an impressive result in the final to take the gold medal. Matched up against Brock's Hannah Taylor, the defending OUA champion and U SPORTS silver medallist, Town cruised to a 12-2 victory to avenge her only defeat from earlier this season.
Also earning a place on the podium at the home meet was rookie Christine Chan, who captured the bronze medal in the women's 48kg weight class. She won two of her four round-robin matches to finish in third place.
In other results, Christelle Lans finished in fifth place in the women's 72kg weight class, while Trevonn Paul was fifth in the men's 61kg division and Mustafa Shah finished sixth in the men's 72kg weight class.
