GUELPH, Ont. (February 5, 2016) – The No. 8 Gaels (12-4) bounced back from their loss last Saturday to Ryerson with a straight set victory (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) over the Guelph Gryphons (4-11) this Friday night.

No. 8 Gaels sweep Gryphons to kick off road trip
GUELPH, Ont. (February 5, 2016) – The No. 8 Gaels (12-4) bounced back from their loss last Saturday to Ryerson with a straight set victory (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) over the Guelph Gryphons (4-11) this Friday night.
Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) headed up the Gaels offence if their win with 12 kills off a 0.500 efficiency as well as two serving aces. Chris Brunet (Calgary, Alta.) followed him up with 11 kills while Jamie Wright (Kingston, Ont.) tallied 34 assists in the three set match.
For the hosts, Josh Green led with 10 kills and two serving aces. The Gryphons were also supported by Luke Woud who scored a 0.429 percentage with his eight kills and Kag Wigston who picked up six digs.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels were the first on the board in all three sets with two attack errors from the Gryphons giving Queen's the first advantage of the match. In both the first and second frames, the Gaels blew through the technical timeout leading the Gryphons 16-10. The visitors kept the pedal to the floor as they put away a 25-17 set followed by a 25-18 set to lead the Gryphons 2-0.
In the final set the Gaels continued to lead although Guelph managed to gain a bit of traction and get some offensive plays started. By the technical the Gaels had only a three point lead as the Gryphons increased their efficiency to 0.350, their highest in the match. The Gaels kept their energy high despite the resistance as Tyler Scheerhoorn (Belleville, Ont.) wrapped up the 3-0 win for the Gaels off a clutch kill followed up immediately with a serving ace to hand the Gaels their 25-20 final set score.
