The Badgers won the 2024 Wilson Cup rematch with a last second layup.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team extended its win streak to ten games and knocked off the No. 6 Queen's Gaels with a 102-100 victory at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston.
Davanté Hackett led the game with 27 points, nine rebounds and a career-high five three-pointers made.
The Badgers shot a whopping 54.5 per cent from the field in the opening quarter compared to the 28.6 per cent from the Gaels and closed the quarter holding a 28-19 score.
The second quarter was a full momentum swap as Queen's put up 34 points to Brock's 25 and the game was tied 53-53 at half.
Hackett led the Badgers in scoring in the first half with 11 points and shot 66 per cent from the field in the first half while hitting all three of his attempted three-pointers.
The Badgers outscored the Gaels 25-20 on 45.5 per cent shooting from the field in a back-and-forth third quarter.
Brock was outscored in the fourth quarter 27-24 but a Michael Matas layup with one second left in the game was what secured the win for the Badgers.
In a battle all over the court, the Badgers owned the rebounds with 52 to just 25 for the Gaels and an additional 19 second-chance points.
Up next, the Badgers return home to the Bob Davis Gymnasium for the first of a three-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The game will be live on OUA.tv.
