Fresh off a franchise-best regular season record, Lakehead Thunderwolves alum and current Maine Red Claws Head Coach Scott Morrison has been named the winner of the NBA Development League Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year award, as selected by his fellow NBA D-League head coaches.
In just his first season behind the Red Claws bench, the former Thunderwolves head coach, led Maine to a 35-15 record, which tied them for first in the NBA D-League with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Under the guidance of Morrison, Maine captured their first East Division Championship and finished the regular season winning eight of their last ten games to secure the top overall seed in the 2015 NBA D-League playoffs.
The award caps off an impressive rookie campaign for Morrison, as earlier this season he coached the Eastern Conference Futures team to an impressive 129-94 win in the 2015 NBA D-League All-Star Game.
While coaching at Lakehead for 10 years, Morrison compiled a record of 185-174, leading the Thunderwolves to their first Wilson Cup title in program history in 2011 and a CIS silver medal in 2013. Morrison was named OUA Coach of the Year in 2010.
The Prince Edward Island native is also an assistant coach for Canada's U18/U19 men's team where he coaches alongside Ryerson Rams head coach Roy Rana.
