Rowe, Renaud and Preocanin named OUA Football Players of the Week

HAMILTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 6, 2016.
OFFENCE: Jayde Rowe (Scarborough, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Carleton
Jayde Rowe (Scarborough, Ont.) and the No. 6 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens made a statement Sunday night, defeating the perennial powerhouse No. 7 Western Mustangs 38-31.
Rowe, a fourth-year history major from Scarborough, Ont., has been named OUA Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Making his home debut in front of a raucous Ravens crowd at MNP Park, the 5’10” running back busted one 74 yards for a touchdown as Carleton jumped out to an early 17-0 lead over the Mustangs. Rowe would find the endzone again less than two minutes later as he scampered in from just two yards out to extend the Ravens lead to 24-0.
Through just two games this season, Rowe finds himself ranked fourth in OUA, averaging 91.0 yards per game.
The Ravens and Rowe are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Toronto, Ont. to take on the Varsity Blues (0-2). Kickoff at Varsity Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
DEFENCE: Frank Renaud (Windsor, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Windsor
The Lancers stunned the defending Yates Cup champions, No. 10 ranked Guelph Gryphons, thanks in large part of a dominant defensive performance from Windsor linebacker Frank Renaud (Windsor, Ont.)
Proudly representing his hometown Lancers, the fourth-year human kinetics student-athlete, finished the game with 10.5 total tackles. His nine solo tackles tied him with fellow Lancer Daniel Metcalfe for the team lead.
Unquestionably, Renaud’s biggest play came in the final minutes of the game with Guelph driving deep into Windsor territory looking to take the lead. The 6’1” 215 lbs linebacker stripped the ball from Gryphons running back Jamal Hooker all but ending Guelph’s comeback bid.
Renaud, who missed all of 2015 due to injury, now has picked up two forced fumbled in just two games to open the season.
Next up for Renaud and the Lancers is a trip to York Stadium to take on the Lions (1-1) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Adam Preocanin (Burlington, Ont.) – 1st yr. – McMaster
No. 5 ranked McMaster Marauders rookie kicker Adam Preocanin (Burlington, Ont.) has been named OUA Special Teams Player of the Week thanks to a perfect day on Monday at Tim Hortons Field.
Preocanin, a first-year humanities major, converted a career high 6-of-6 field goal attempts in McMaster’s 32-5 Labour Day victory over the visiting Varsity Blues.
The Burlington, Ont. native also had four kickoffs for 228 yards, an average of 57-yards per attempt. In addition, the 6’0” 175 lbs kicker finished the day with six punts for 215 yards, two of which found their way inside the Blues 20 yard line.
Preocanin and the Marauders will head out on the road for the first time this season as they travel to the nations capital to take on the uOttawa Gee-Gees (1-0) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
