Quick strikes at Windsor move Ottawa to 4-0

The Gee-Gees men’s football team is now 4-0 after a 41-18 victory at Windsor on Saturday afternoon. Ottawa quarterback Derek Wendel put his squad up early with touchdown drives on the opening two possessions and finished the day with 402 yards passing.

The Gee-Gees men's football team is now 4-0 after a 41-18 victory at Windsor on Saturday afternoon. Ottawa quarterback Derek Wendel put his squad up early with touchdown drives on the opening two possessions and finished the day with 402 yards passing.

Gee-Gees kicker Lewis Ward continued his perfect season with four field goals including a 46-yarder. The fourth-year is now 11-for-11 on field goal attempts this year.

Ottawa receiver Trevor Kennedy followed up his game-winning touchdown catch of last week by scoring the game's first major. He finished the game with a career-high of 105 yards, just shy of the team leader Kalem Beaver.

Beaver, a product of Cole Harbour Nova Scotia, is having a breakout year in his sophomore campaign. He finished the day with 115 yards on just five catches thanks partially to a 50-yard effort in the second quarter which set up a Gee-Gees touchdown.

uOttawa head coach Jamie Barresi says Beaver brings a different element to the offence. "We knew coming into the year that he has uncommon speed. He's explosive and he just makes people miss. His yards after catch are incredible." At 5-11 and 175 pounds, Beaver has three touchdowns for Ottawa this season and 18 total catches.

Another highlight for Ottawa was the work of the defensive line. "Our defensive front put a lot of pressure on their guy [Windsor quarterback Casey Wright] all day," noted Barresi. "They were in his face and that helps our secondary do their job."

Fifth-year lineman Sam Randazzo picked up two of Ottawa's four sacks and also forced a fumble which he recovered. Randazzo now has 4.5 sacks on the season which ranks second in the OUA and fourth nationally.
