Box Score MONTREAL --
Mathieu Pompei of Laval, Que., scored his first career hat-trick and added a helper as No. 4-ranked McGill skated to a resounding 8-3 victory over the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in a spooky OUA men's hockey game on Halloween at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
The Redmen jumped into an early 4-0 lead, then the gremlins got involved as the Thunderwolves clawed their way back, reducing the deficit to 4-3 before McGill got back in gear with four unanswered goals.
Pompei, a 5-foot-7, 167-pound centre, scored the game's first marker at 8:48 of the opening period, then assisted on what to be the game-winning tally by defenceman
Alexandre Chenevert at 3:27 of the middle period, which put the Redmen ahead 4-0.
After Lakehead rallied with three goals in three minutes and five seconds, Pompei scored twice in 32 seconds to muzzle the 'Wolves. It capped a brilliant weekend for the social work senior, who had a pair of goals and one assist in Friday's 5-1 win over Lakehead. He is now the second-leading scorer in the OUA, with a 7-7-14 record in eight games, trailing teammate
Samuel Labrecque 7-8-15).
