OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 victory over the Nipissing Lakers.
It was a slow start for the Ridgebacks and Victoria Smith took advantage to open the scoring in the 28
th minute.
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) tied the game 1-1 in the 36
th minute, where the score remained to close out the half.
The Ridgebacks began the second half with possession and took full advantage, as they wore down the Lakers defence. In the 68
th minute Henderson got her second of the game, after the keeper misplayed a through ball by
Lauren Rea (Burnaby, B.C.).
Sarah Foster (Oshawa, Ont.) gave the Ridgebacks the insurance marker, with her team-leading sixth of the year, after finishing off a beautiful run in the 81
st minute.
"They stuck to the plan and just did what we asked them to do," said assistant coach Ramin Mohammadi. "They executed it perfectly."
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont.) made four saves in the winning effort, while Mykaela Volpe had three saves for the Lakers in the loss.
The win is critical for the Ridgebacks playoff push, as they move into the final playoff position. The Ridgebacks are back on the pitch tomorrow for their final home game, another crucial match, when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs.
