SUDBURY, Ont. – We now have the answer to the trivia question "who scored the first basket in Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's basketball history?"
Graddy Kanku (Ottawa, Ont.) scored the first Ridgebacks basket and gave them the first lead in program history, but from there the experienced Laurentian Voyageurs took over en route to a 90-57 victory.
"It was a good experience and I feel like it will help us moving forward this season," said Kanku. "It was a great first game. Of course we lost the game, but I think there's a lot to learn from it."
Ontario Tech continues their opening weekend on the road in North Bay on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.

Graddy Kanku scored a game-high 25 points in the Ontario Tech loss. He went to the line 13 times, making 11 of his attempts.

AJ Cummings (Ajax, Ont.) finished with 15 points in his OUA debut.
• Laurentian had both Kadre Gray and Joseph Hlady finish with 22 and 21 points respectively, while Gray was a perfect 10-for-10 from the line.
• Kanku had a team-high two blocks and three steals for the Ridgebacks.

Ammar Hassan (London, Ont.) and
Chris Ogie (Morinville, Alta.) each had six boards to lead the Ridgebacks.
• Gray finished with a game-high eight boards, while Gaetan Chamand had three blocks for the Voyageurs.
