The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team finished their final road trip of the season with a 76-43 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hall on Saturday.

The game started with the Gee-Gees hitting shot after shot from beyond the arc. Laurentian had trouble sticking with their opponent as tough, contested shots continued to find the basket throughout the first quarter for Ottawa. On the other hand, the Voyageurs struggled to pick up points, going 0-5 from 3-point range and going just 25% from the field in the first, putting them down 19-8 after one.

The Voyageurs had their fortunes turn around early in the second quarter, starting the second on a 10-2 run, cutting the lead back down to three and gaining much needed momentum against one of the best teams in the nation. In the final minutes of the quarter, however, the Gee-Gees went on a run of their own, putting them back up by 10 with the score 36-26 at half time.

The second half continued to be a struggle for the Voyageurs as the tough and aggressive defense demonstrated by the Gee-Gees made every single trip on offense a battle for Laurentian. Once more, it was three point shooting that was the story as they went 0-3 from downtown in the third quarter. They also got into a bit of foul trouble near the end, allowing Ottawa to build on their lead with late free throws, extending their lead to 14 going into the fourth quarter.

It was the final quarter where Ottawa showed why they are ranked in the top 10 in U SPORTS. They outscored Laurentian 25-6, putting the game to bed on 50% three point shooting along with going 6-6 from the free throw line to run away from the Voyageurs. For Laurentian, it was again three point shooting that was the downfall, going just 2-20 combined throughout the game and an overall 27% shooting from the field. This resulted in what was a tightly contested first 30 minutes that turned into a lopsided victory for the hometown Gee-Gees with a final score of 76-43.

The game's top performer for the Voyageurs was Bailey Tabin who put up 20 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.

Laurentian will finish the regular season with a final home stand against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Queen's Gaels on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the Ben Avery Gym.
