SUDBURY, Ont. – Danielle Toland stopped all 38 shots she faced and four different players had multi-point games as the Laurentian Voyageurs shutout the Ontario Tech University women's hockey team 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Ridgebacks started strong controlling much of the play, but could not find the back of the net, as their offence continued to struggle. It looked like the first period would end scoreless, with a sense of momentum on the visitor's side, but a late period goal by the Voyageurs quickly deflated the sails of the Ridgebacks. The home team completely stole momentum with a second goal just 1:30 into the second period. The Ridgebacks continued to battle but were unable to solve Toland.
Ontario Tech will now return home for a Saturday affair against Queen's to wrap up their first half schedule.
• Karissa Hoskin opened the scoring at 17:19 of the first.
• Payton Bray scored early in the second to make it 2-0 and made it 3-0 with her second of the game coming at 6:00.
• At 11:31 of the second, Megan Arnott made it 4-0, with Brynn O'Dwyer adding the fifth goal 3:19 into the final frame.
•
Brooke Vial (Port Moddy, B.C.) allowed four goals on 21 shots, while
Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) made 13 saves on 14 shot in relief.
• Danielle Toland had the 38 save shutout.
