Box Score
MONTREAL -- Daniel Milne tallied twice, including the game-winner at 18:03 of the final period as McGill rallied from a three-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory over Carleton in OUA men's hockey at McConnell Arena, Friday.

McGill, which also trailed 11-0 on the shot clock midway through the first period, roared back to eventually outshoot their visitors 43-26.

The Ravens jumped into a shocking 2-0 lead on goals by Sean Bamford and Ryan Van Stralen at 1:42 and 2:46. At that point, McGill head coach Kelly Nobes called what is believed to be the earliest time-out in McGill hockey history. The move seemed to settle down his squad.

"I told the guys that 'We need to start on time and we've talked about this before'," said Nobes who has seen lethargic starts a number of times this season. "We're not moving our feet, we're not getting pucks out at the half-wall. We're not competing... let's go!"

But when Corey Durocher made it 3-0 at 15:54, the game had all the appearances of being a rout. Nobes decided to give starting goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard the rest of the night off and called upon freshman Louis-Philip Guindon to stop the bleeding.

Ten seconds later, six-foot, 191-pound Milne potted his first goal at 16:04 and the sputtering Redmen engine finally kicked into gear.

Nobes was asked what he said to the troops during the first intermission.

"That discussion was all about moving forward," he confided. "I thought that we gained a little momentum at the end of the period. We had a major penalty to kill going into the second , so the plan was let's get this penalty killed off and get to work, and start moving again like we were in the late stages of the first period."

The Redmen killed off the major -- which was served by high-scoring blueliner Dominic Talbot-Tassi -- shortly thereafter, sophomore defenceman Gianluca Curcuruto netted his first career marker to narrow the gap to 3-2 at 9:44 of the middle frame. Less than four minutes after that, another defenceman came through when sophomore Redgie Bois evened the score at 3-3.

That set the table for Milne's late game heroics, on a power-play with 117 seconds remaining and overtime looming large. The 20-year-old junior, joined the Redmen last year out of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack after playing a year with the University of Michigan. He has quietly scored 17 goals in 32 regular season games for the Redmen, including three in four contests this season.

Senior Mathieu Pompei and freshman Guillaume Gauthier each added three helpers..

Guindon kicked aside all 12 shots faced the rest of the way between the McGill pipes to collect what appeared to be an unlikely victory, improving to 3-0 on the young season. Francois Brassard took the loss for the Ravens, spoiling a 39-save outing.

McGill went 1-for-8 with the man-advantage and killed off their only penalty, the aformentioned five-minute major -- which was accompanied by an automatic game misconduct -- assessed to 5-foot-11 sophomore Jerome Verrier after what appeared to be an accidental collision with Durocher, a 6-foot-3 forward, who did not return.

"I thought we showed a lot of character and resilience to claw our way back into the game," added Nobes.

No rest for the wicked as McGill (3-1) will host No.7-ranked UQTR (3-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Pats were upset 6-3 at Concordia (4-1) on Friday. Carleton (3-3) is off until Oct. 28, when they host undefeated Ryerson (4-0).
