No. 10 ranked Gryphons end Ridgebacks win streak in dominating fashion

OSHAWA, Ont. – It was a tough day at the Campus Ice Centre in a high-scoring affair as the UOIT women's hockey team had their win streak snapped at three games in 7-3 loss.
 
The nationally ranked Gryphons offence scored seven goals, nearing their season-high of nine, but for UOIT a positive was scoring three, the most allowed by the Gryphons in 2018-19 thus far.
 
Prior to the game Sarah Biesenthal (Chepstow, Ont.) was recognized for playing 100 conference games with the Ridgebacks, a feat she accomplished just prior to the holiday break on the road against the Laurentian Voyageurs.
 
Next up for the Ridgebacks is a Thursday night meeting with the Varsity Blues in Toronto. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
  Erin Ross (Lucan, Ont.) opened the scoring in the game, getting the Ridgebacks their only lead of the game at the 11:16 mark.
• Guelph's scoring was paced by Sydney Davison who scored a natural hat-trick during the first and second periods to give the Gryphons a 3-1 lead.
• The Gryphons' remaining goals came from Stephanie Gava, Claire Merrick, Mallory Young and Katie Mikkelsen.
• With her second career goal and first of the season, defenceman Sarah Biesenthal cut the Gryphons lead to 3-2 midway through the second frame.
• After three more goals by Guelph, Nicole Zabel (Palmerston, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season to round out the Ridgebacks offence.
  Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) allowed five goals on 29 shots over the opening two periods in the loss for the Ridgebacks, her second of the season. In relief, Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) allowed two goals on seven shots in the third period.
• Aurore Beaulieu made 24 saves in the win for the Gryphons.
  Overall Record: 8-8-1-1 (W-L-OTW-OTL)
