Ridgebacks fall short in battle with Ravens

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University men's hockey team fell 3-1 to the No. 3 ranked Carleton Ravens at home on Friday night.

The Ridgebacks entered the game on a high after sweeping a pair of games last weekend. It was fast paced action, as the home team traded chances with the nationally ranked Ravens, but the period ended scoreless.

The offence woke up during the middle period as the teams traded goals just under two minutes apart. A Ravens goal with under three minutes to play in the period gave the visitors the lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

"It was a tough game, we knew exactly what we were going to get from that team," said head coach Curtis Hodgins. "We were right there, we had some great chances in the last 30 seconds there, it just didn't go in."

The Ridgebacks pressed hard in the third period and thought they had tied the game on a net front scramble, but the ref ruled the puck stayed out. An empty net goal sealed the game. Ontario Tech has a quick turnaround, hosting the No. 4 Ottawa Gee-Gees tomorrow night.
Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) opened the scoring after diving across the crease to swat the puck into an empty net at 5:04 of the second. • Parker Aucoin evened the game at 6:55 in period two, taking advantage of a misplayed puck in front.
• Brogan O'Brien gave the Ravens the lead at 17:13 of the second, while Kody McDonald sealed the game with an empty net at 19:45 of the third.
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) faced 33 shots, stopping 31 in the loss.
• Justin Nichols stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced in the win.
  Overall Record: 5-6-0
Conference Record: 3-4-0
