Ridgebacks undone by third period in loss to Varsity Blues

TORONTO, Ont. – Three third period goals by the Toronto Varsity Blues were the difference in the Ontario Tech University men's hockey team's 4-1 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Ridgebacks were able to steal early momentum from the home side as they opened the scoring just under five minutes into the action. Toronto evened up the game later in the period, taking advantage of a Ridgebacks penalty.

The score remained 1-1 heading into the final 20 minutes, where the home side needed just over five minutes to break the tie. Toronto added a third goal just over three minutes later, before sealing the game with a fourth in the last five minutes. The Ridgebacks were unable to sustain any offensive zone pressure as the Varsity Blues displayed their own strong defence, denying the Ridgebacks of clean zone entries.

Ontario Tech will return home next weekend to welcome the Windsor Lancers for a weekend doubleheader, with the first game going Friday night at Campus Ice Centre.
Brennan Roy (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) opened the scoring at 4:52 of the first when he joined the rush and received the feed from Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) in the high slot, before burying it top corner. • Justin Brand evened the game at 1-1 during a Varsity Blues power play at 11:54 of the first.
• Chase Olsen and David Thomson scored 3:20 apart to give the home team the 3-1 lead, with the first goal coming at 5:16 of the third.
