NORTH BAY, Ont. – It was a night of wasted chances as the UOIT men's hockey team fell 2-0 to the Nipissing Lakers on Friday.
A five-minute power play was the main opportunity the UOIT men's hockey team had to take control of the game, but the Ridgebacks didn't capitalize and actually gave up the game-winning goal to the Lakers while on their extended man advantage.
The Ridgebacks were 0-for-5 on the power play on the night, compared to Nipissing going 0-for-2. UOIT also finished the game outshooting Nipissing 34-15.
Friday's loss comes after a decisive 5-1 win over the nationally ranked Queen's Gaels last weekend. They will hope to salvage the northern trip with a two-point night on Saturday against the Laurentian Voyageurs.
• Danny Desrochers scored the opening goal of the game 53 seconds into the third period. His shorthanded tally came while his team was killing a five-minute boarding major charged to Gael Lubwele.
• Deverick Ottereyes scored his first goal of the season for Nipissing on an empty net.

Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) made 14 saves in the loss for UOIT.
• Unfortunately for the Ridgebacks, the became the team Brent Moran earned his first OUA shutout against as he turned aside 34 UOIT shots in the win.
