WVB: Gryphons Bounce Back with 3 Set Win Over Windsor

Guelph ON: The University of Guelph women's volleyball team defeated the Windsor Lancers in straight sets Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Center. Set scores were 25-16, 25-20 & 25-21. The first set saw the Gryphons use a 9 point run in the middle of the set to take control and win 25-16. Set 2 saw Guelph jump out to a 10-3 lead which they expanded to 11 points later in the set before a Windsor comeback narrowed the gap. Ultimately, the Gryphons were able to finish the set winning 25-20. The third set started with the Lancers coming out with new energy as they took the lead 9-3 early on. The Gryphons were able to chip away and used a 6-2 run later to take the lead and finish the set and the match with a 25-21 win.

Coach Funk stated. "Tonight was a much needed win for us in terms of the standings as divisional games are always important. Becky Breau really carried the offense tonight and she was the difference in the first 2 sets for us. Meghan Morelli had a good night attacking and from the service line as well." Breau led the offense with 17 points (17 kills) followed by Morelli with 14 (11 kills, 3 aces) and Kristen Almhjell had 14 digs for the defense. The Gryphons now go on the road for 4 straight matches starting next Saturday November 7th when they visit the Waterloo Warriors at 6pm.
