WATERLOO, Ont. – Alex Frigon (Dartmouth, Ont.) scored in overtime to continue the Ontario Tech University women's hockey hot streak in 2020.
They defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2, improving their record to 5-2 in January.
Unfortunately for the Ridgebacks, they needed to win their final five games of the season in regulation to catch the eighth-place Western Mustangs for the final playoff spot. Therefore, with the overtime victory, Ontario Tech has now officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
They wrap up their season with two road and two home games, with the final tilt of 2019-20 taking place February 12 against the Guelph Gryphons.
• Chloe Davidson's goal 5:21 into the second period was the lone goal for much of the night, until
Erin Ross (Lucan, Ont.) tied the game for the Ridgebacks 3:32 into the third period.
• Just three minutes later
Marissa Murphy (Odessa, Ont.) scored her third of the season to put Ontario Tech ahead.
• Rebecca Hall tied the game 2-2 after the Ridgebacks got into penalty trouble with under five to go in regulation.
•
Alex Frigon got the game-winning goal after the Ridgebacks denied a penalty shot attempt, plus a Golden Hawks power play in overtime.
•
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) made 38 saves in her third win of the season.
• Victoria Kelaiditis turned aside 25 Ridgeback shots in the loss for Laurier.
