Johnston opens and closes Ridgebacks scoring in shootout victory

WINDSOR, Ont. – Beginning a western Ontario weekend road trip in Windsor, the Ontario Tech women's hockey team once again played beyond regulation time, beating the Windsor Lancers 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night.

The Ridgebacks have now won three of their last four games, as they look for a strong second half surge.

Both teams showed they were back in midseason form, as the action was fast paced and end-to-end, with the scoring beginning just over seven minutes after puck drop. The teams traded goals as both teams tallied in the span of 1:09. The teams then settled into a groove throughout the remainder of the opening 40 minutes, with the Ridgebacks holding a 2-1.

Awarded a penalty shot, the Lancers were able to convert and even the game midway through the final frame, as the teams would again trade goals in a short span (45 seconds) sending the game to overtime. The seven extra minutes of play showed no results, as the Ridgebacks entered and prevailed in their first shootout of the season.
