WBB: Kate MacTavish Surpasses 1000 Career Points in 71-32 Win

Guelph, ON: The Gryphons women's basketball team defeats the Nipissing Lakers 71-32, Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre in a special night for the 5th year standout, Kate MacTavish as she picked up her 1,000th career point.

The Bio-Medical Sciences major, MacTavish completed the milestone midway through the first quarter when she asserted herself in the paint as she finished off the layoff by the rim scoring her third basket of the game and reaching the 1,000th point plateau in her career. The Gryphons faithful gave her a great ovation to acknowledge the special moment for MacTavish in her illustrious career as a Gryphon. MacTavish wasn't done there as she had herself a monster game finishing with a double-double. MacTavish tallied  21 points, 16 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end throughout the night.
The Gryphons really asserted themselves at the rim and especially in the first half as they out rebounded the Lakers 27-17 and grabbed 10 rebounds off the offensive glass. The Lakers were held to 4-26 shooting from the field in the half.

Guelph defensively held the Lakers to their lowest point total of the season forcing a lot of shot clock violations, turnovers and suffocating defense held them to 9-54 shooting. The hosts utilized their advantage on the boards as they outrebounded Nipissing 47-27 and 16-8 on the offensive end. Kate Yallin of Guelph finished with 12 points, Bridget Atkinson had 10 and the bench scored 25 points in extended minutes led by Haley Belyk's seven.

The game didn't end the way they wanted for the Gryphons as Megan Brenkel sustained a lower body injury in a collision at the net with 6:51 remaining. The Gryphons improve to 6-1 as they play their next game, Saturday, November 28th when they are on the road in Hamilton to face MacMaster.
